Crohn's Disease

Crohn's Disease is an inflammatory bowel disease, causing inflammation of the intestinal walls. Most often Crohn's affects the lower part of the small intestine. However, the inflammation may spread to the entire digestive tract, from the mouth to the anus.

Symptoms of Crohn's Disease include abdominal pain, diarrhea, rectal bleeding, weight loss, and fever. There may be periods when one suffering from Crohn's shows no symptoms, sometimes for a long time.

The causes of Crohn's Disease are unknown, but one theory suggests an bacterium or virus which affects the immune system, triggering an inflammation in the wall of the intestine.
